December holidays taking care of your health
Christmas and the New Year is a time of peace and reunion, but we often indulge in excess when it comes to the food and drinks we consume. The key is a balanced diet, where all types of foods are present in the right proportions, moderating the consumption of foods rich in sugar and fat.
Plan the menu in advance: if you take charge of your holiday meals, you can offer healthier and lighter options.
Don’t forget fruits, vegetables, and greens: always remember that these foods should be included in the heartier meals.
Use healthy cooking techniques: prepare dishes using gentle cooking methods such as boiling or steaming, baking, or cooking in parchment paper. This way, there will be less fat in the dishes and it will help with digestion after meals.
Limit alcohol consumption.
Eat slowly, without rushing: be mindful while eating, enjoy the taste, texture, and aromas.
Don’t neglect your routines and keep up with light exercise during the holidays (walking).

Prostate Cancer: Stages and Detection
The most widely used staging system for prostate cancer is the TNM system of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC).
The TNM system for prostate cancer is based on five key pieces of information:
The extent of the primary tumor (T category)*
Whether the cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes (N category)
Whether the cancer has spread (metastasized) to other parts of the body (M category)
The PSA level at the time of diagnosis.
The Grade Group (based on the Gleason score), which measures the likelihood of cancer growing and spreading quickly. This is determined by the results of the prostate biopsy (or surgery).

Attention to Symptoms of Prostate Problems:
Pay Attention to Symptoms That May Indicate Prostate Problems
Detecting cancer in its early stages often allows for more treatment options. In some cases, early-stage prostate cancer may present signs and symptoms, but this isn't always the case. Some of the most common symptoms include:Pain during urination
Difficulty starting or maintaining the flow of urine
Blood in the urine
Frequent need to urinate, especially at night
Incontinence or loss of urine during the night
Blockage of the urinary tract
Although these symptoms can be related to other conditions, it’s crucial not to ignore them. In the United States, it is estimated that 299,010 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed this year. It’s important to have regular urological checkups because early-stage prostate cancer doesn’t always show obvious symptoms. Don't wait until it's too late. What are the chances that the cancer has spread beyond my prostate? If so, is it still curable?
Do I need any other tests before deciding on treatment?
Should I consult with other doctors before making a decision on treatment?
What is the clinical stage and grade (Gleason score or grade group) of my cancer? What are the implications for my case?
If I'm concerned about expenses and insurance coverage for my diagnosis and treatment, who can help me?

Healthy fats: Olive oil, nuts, and fatty fish are sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which have anti-inflammatory properties and can protect prostate health.
Dietary fiber: Whole grains, legumes, and fruits provide fiber, which is important for good digestion and can help regulate hormone levels, reducing the risk of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Low red meat consumption: The Mediterranean diet promotes moderate consumption of red meat and more plant-based proteins, fish, and poultry, which can contribute to prostate health and help reduce the risk of prostate cancer associated with a high consumption of red meat.

Physical activity and its impact on prostate health
Regular physical activity is essential to maintaining a healthy prostate. Exercising daily not only helps with weight control, but also reduces the risk of prostate problems and fights prostate cancer, preventing recurrences and helping to manage side effects. When you think about physical activity or exercise, you might imagine running, using weight machines, or going to the gym. However, many activities qualify as exercise, such as walking, gardening, dancing, or even playing with the grandchildren. If it makes you breathe harder and your heart beat faster, it's probably exercise.
It is recommended to do at least 150 minutes of moderate activity each week, or 30 minutes for 5 days a week. At Focalyx®, we encourage you to incorporate at least 30 minutes of exercise into your daily routine.

This month is about encouraging the men in your life to focus on their health through proper nutrition, exercise, and disease prevention. Although men face specific health issues (like prostate cancer), many health problems are common to both sexes (like heart disease and diabetes). However, men are more reluctant to visit the doctor (women go to the doctor twice as often as men). We aim to raise awareness about preventable health issues and prolong the quality of life for men. 7 Essential Tips to Care for Your Prostate
To prevent prostate problems, follow these guidelines!
Get regular medical check-ups: Especially from ages 50-55, when hormonal changes can cause the progressive growth of the prostate. Annual check-ups help with early detection.
Eat a healthy and balanced diet: Manage BPH symptoms with a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, proteins, and water. Avoid saturated fats.
Maintain good hydration: Drink 1.5-2 liters of water daily to improve urination. Reduce liquids before long trips and before bedtime.
Avoid or limit alcohol and caffeine: Excessive amounts can irritate the prostate and cause problems such as BPH.
Exercise and avoid being overweight: Daily physical activity controls fat levels and BPH symptoms. Move for at least 30 minutes a day.
Quit smoking: Keep your body in good condition and resistant to potential diseases.
Maintain an active sex life: Promotes prostate health by keeping it active.

The Genetic Influence on Prostate Cancer and Its Impact on Men's Health
Prostate cancer has a substantial hereditary component, estimated between 40% and 50%. This genetic contribution is composed of a combination of rare variants in high to moderate penetrance genes and common low penetrance genes. However, identifying susceptibility genes in prostate cancer has been challenging due to the clinical and genetic heterogeneity of the disease. A positive family history of prostate cancer, especially when diagnosed in a first-degree relative, has been associated with an approximate two- to three-fold increase in the risk of developing prostate cancer.

Prostatic abscess is a rare complication; it is observed in patients with diabetes, immunosuppression, and those without timely treatment for acute prostatitis. An abscess is an accumulation of infection containing a liquid called pus. An accumulation of infection like this in the prostate gland is termed a prostatic abscess. Patients often have fever and symptoms of urinary irritation and obstruction and may show signs of sepsis. The clinical presentation is very similar to that of acute bacterial prostatitis. Understanding the Gleason Score
Let's delve into a crucial tool in the battle against prostate cancer: the Gleason score. Developed in 1966 by Dr. Donald Gleason, this system is nothing short of a compass for navigating the aggressiveness of prostate cancer. By observing how closely cancer cells resemble normal prostate tissue under the microscope, doctors can predict the ferocity of the cancer. Here's the breakdown: A grade 1 means the cancer appears almost normal and is less aggressive. A grade 5 indicates a high level of abnormality and aggressiveness. Grades 2 to 4 reflect intermediate aggressiveness. With the Gleason score, composed of a primary and a secondary grade (both between 1 and 5), specialists have a clearer picture of what to expect and how to combat it. It's important to know that cancer with higher grades is more likely to metastasize, especially in grades 4 and 5. This knowledge is power. With it, we can confront prostate cancer with an informed and precise strategy.

3 things you should know about prostate cancer in young men
Preserve your urinary and sexual functions with our treatment.
Prostate cancer normally occurs in older men, the average age of diagnosis is 66 years, only 10% of men under 55 years of age develop the disease. Nevertheless, younger people should have information about the disease, the diagnostic tests and the treatment, in case they develop it:
Early-onset prostate cancer may be more aggressive: The earlier the disease develops, the more aggressive it usually is.
Family history affects risk: There is an important genetic factor in the development of prostate cancer in young men. Variants in genes such as BRCA2 or BRCA1 mark the risk, as occurs with breast cancer.
Early prostate cancer usually does not cause any symptoms.

Chronic stress and prostate cancer
Researchers from the University of Buenos Aires studied the variations of a hormone produced by the body in situations of stress and discovered that these events interact with a prostate cancer marker. “Until now, scientists knew that cortisol, a hormone that arises in response to chronic stress, was involved in the development of certain diseases.
What this team of scientists from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) has identified is that cases of stress lead to an increase in cortisol levels, which impacts the prostate cancer tumor marker, known as PSA (PSA). specific prostate). And according to estimates by psychologists who are experts in stress, around 42% of people suffer from stress frequently.
“We observed that cortisol would interact with life events, increasing the levels of prostate-specific antigen,” adds Fabre. Although these studies are not definitive, it is important to note that chronic stress can affect your health”

Avoid these foods and take care of your prostate
A healthy diet for an enlarged prostate involves not only consuming beneficial foods but also avoiding those that are not prostate-friendly. Among the foods to avoid are:
Red meat, due to its high content of saturated fats that can increase inflammation.
Caffeine, which can act as a diuretic, increasing the amount, frequency, and urgency of urination.
Alcohol, excessive consumption of which can negatively impact various body systems, including the prostate, and increase the risk of developing prostate cancer.
Sodium, as high intake can exacerbate urinary tract symptoms associated with BPH.
Reducing the consumption of these foods as part of a balanced diet can have a beneficial effect on prostate growth and muscle tone.

What is bladder cancer?
Bladder cancer, also known as carcinoma of the bladder, occurs when the cells of this organ start to multiply uncontrollably. The bladder is a hollow, balloon-shaped organ where urine is stored, located in the lower abdomen.
Symptoms of bladder cancer can vary from person to person. The most common symptom is hematuria (blood in the urine), often with the urine color ranging from light brown to bright red.
Other common symptoms of bladder cancer include:
Frequent need to urinate.
Pain or burning sensation during urination.
Feeling the need to urinate even when the bladder is not full.
Waking up multiple times during the night to urinate.
It's important to consult with the medical team if you experience any of these symptoms. Keep in mind that these symptoms can be attributed to urinary infections, kidney or bladder stones, or other kidney-related issues, and not necessarily to cancer. Cold and rainy weather vs. Prostate Cancer
Researchers from the University of Idaho in the United States claim that cold and rainy climates may be linked to a higher incidence of prostate cancer. They argue that low temperatures delay the degradation of certain organic pollutants, such as pesticides or industrial byproducts, which are related to the development of these tumors. Furthermore, according to the findings of these experts published in the International Journal of Health Geographics, low exposure to ultraviolet rays leads to vitamin D deficiencies and an increased risk of cancer.
